Authentic Movement Workshop
Friday, May 2, 4 p.m. to Sunday, May 4, 3 p.m. $355
Authentic Movement is rooted in the principles of modern expressive dance and Jungian Depth Psychology. Its potential is to bring to consciousness previously hidden elements of unique personal, spiritual and creative aspects of the self. It is a physical practice that invites and teaches the ability to listen to and follow deep internal cues from the body. In its external form it is very simple. A 'Mover' (or several 'Movers') moves, with eyes closed, yielding to spontaneous sensory/kinaesthetic impulses. A 'Witness" (or several witnesses), with eyes open, offers presence and attention to the Mover. The Witness does not 'watch' or 'observe' the Mover. Rather, Mover and Witness together participate in the practice of attending to their own direct felt experience. Clearly and precisely formulated guidelines provide a safe and contained environment in which both Mover and Witness are free and protected from judgment, interpretation or projection. The practice includes reflective speaking and other creative forms of articulation in order to deepen individual insight. For those who have practiced Authentic Movement at least once or have experience in a similar discipline. Contact Leslie French, lfrench@georgebrown.ca 416 603-4044

Weekend – May 16-18, 2008 $325 (+ 6% GST)
Whole week – May 16-23, 2008 $875 (+ 6% GST)
Insight Meditation (Vipassana) is the foundation of Buddhist meditation practices. Simple, yet profound and powerful, it helps build awareness in each moment so you can begin to understand and free yourself from restrictive patterns, whether mental, emotional and physical. Ongoing practice leads not only to compassion and open-heartedness, but clarity and wisdom. Andy also uses active self-inquiry meditations to tackle specific conflicts. Qigong techniques will be specially selected by Shifu James to enhance cleansing, opening and grounding during the retreat. Qigong regulates body, energy (Qi) and mind. It has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), internal martial arts and spiritual transformation. Location: Harmony Dawn Retreat, please contact us to register.

Meditation Retreat -- Heart Opening and Insight Retreat
Weekend only May 30 to June 1 $325.00,
4 Day: May 30 to June 3 $575.00
The weekend portion of the retreat will be based on Metta - Kindness for oneself and others and on Tonglen - the transformation of suffering into kindness. On Sunday, we move from the open heart practices into investigation or Vipassana meditation. Vipassana or Insight Meditation is a practice that emphasizes the development of clarity and equanimity with awareness. Vipassana means 'to see separately' or to see clearly, distinctly and with penetration. This going deeply with awareness allows for transformation and release from our conditioning. The everchanging flow in mind and body is experienced with joy, affection and calm as we learn to take ourselves less seriously. Our retreats look to balance mind and body in our meditation practice. We include in the daily schedule, yoga in the morning and evening, formal walking and sitting meditation and time to be with nature. We ease naturally into silence. The reduction of inner chatter supports the outer silence just as letting go of social chatter and engagement enhances inner silence. www.friendsoftheheart.com
